Ethnic US is creating an international business incubator that will provide business training, in kind services and financing for SMEs in developing countries. A specific business plan is being developed for Gateway Economies. The following is a brief overview of some highlights. Business Training One of the major hindrances of creating a successful business is the lack of access to education in basic business practices. Simple bookkeeping, accounting, marketing, and management training can help a successful micro-business owner take the next step to becoming a SME. More importantly, entrepreneurs will be able to execute great ideas with their natural energy and drive with better skill sets. In-Kind Services Traditional incubators generally have a few things in common. First, they are in a location where business start-ups may begin. Incubators focused on manufacturing have facilities conducive to creating a manufacturing facility and technology based incubators focus provide an environment ideal for a technology heavy company to begin. Second, many incubators provide office space and personnel dedicated to bookkeeping and reception. Additionally, many incubators employ consultants to help businesses take the next step in production, marketing, organization, etc. Gateway Economies is exploring various options in providing in kind services. Gateway will probably not have many facilities to help launch businesses, but will provide bookkeeping and consulting services in other capacities. Finance Consumer credit is very difficult to obtain in many developing economies. Most banks are not equipped to nor focused on giving business loans as part of their investment strategies. Offering low interest loans and/or grants to SMEs meeting the requirements of Gateway Economies will give entrepreneurs an opportunity to establish businesses that will have a large impact.
